I wanted to explore the effect that shadows could have on the atmosphere of a painting. I was heavily inspired by the works of Ken Currie and how he could take a fairly minimalistic subject matter and make it bold and frightening through lighting techniques. I used intense lighting to cast shadows over the face, focusing on hiding the main facial features. This in turn changed the atmosphere and made the pieces feel more eerie and threatening.
